Don Tatzin

Don has served the City of Lafayette for 33 years since moving here in 1976 with his wife, Ellen. He was first elected to the City Council in 1985, and has since earned the distinction as the longest-tenured council member in Contra Costa County. In addition, Don served seven terms as Mayor of Lafayette–1987, 1991, 1997, 2002, 2009, 2014 and 2018.

Throughout his tenure as both Mayor and Council Member, Don fostered an exceptional working relationship with residents, other Council Members, volunteers and staff, working diligently to address the needs and concerns of the community.

During his 33 years of service to the City of Lafayette, Don represented Lafayette residents on numerous county and regional boards, committees, and commissions, and was largely responsible for many quality-of-life improvements to the City and, also, for its long-term financial health. Don served as Chair of the Trails, Parks and Recreation Commission and as a member of the Planning Commission.

Don is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he earned three degrees; BS in Urban Studies and Planning, BS in Economics and a Master of City Planning.
